You could be forgiven that this post is all about a wedding, that I could be about to prattle on about growing my own wedding flowers. You'd be a bit disappointed.
No, instead this is about blueberries. This is the first time I have tried to grow these despite loving the rather small and expensive boxes of them in the supermarket.
Heaven knows why I haven't bothered before. I think part of the reason was they just seemed a tad complicated. I know, silly huh? All that special compost blah blah blah. Obviously it doesn't take much for things to become complicated in my eyes.
And, this will be hard to believe, I haven't really spent much money on the allotment. Oh in my head I have but the most I buy are seed packets. Lots and lots admittedly but still only seeds.
But I hankered after one after seeing some blueberry plants on others' plots at the allotment (although never any blueberries funnily enough). I caved in the other month and bought one (although I do need another).
After umming and ahhing I decided to plant it in a large pot at home so I can hopefully beat the birds to any fruit and nip out in my pj's to do a quick early morning harvest.
Stephen who kindly supplied the school's one) at Victoriana Nursery advised me to also put some old rusty nails into the bottom of the pot so that idea was the 'borrowed' bit of the post title, the nails were the 'old', the plant was 'new' and the blue will be the fruit. Hopefully.
Have any of you successfully grown blueberries? Any tips?
